Here's the completely OOC information part of this site. We're going to talk about what you need to know before you actually dip your feet in this roleplay. Taiyo Wangetsu Highschool is a roleplay taking place in one of Solest's possible futures. What's more, it's actually a game inside a much larger network, sort of how you'd view something like Everquest or Ultima Online but on a much larger scale. But we won't get into that. Once in awhile, you may hear about a "Modifier" having to change something in Solest, and that means the game is being modified somewhat. Don't worry about it, this is all just extra, disposable information.

What you do need to know is this: Your regular characters have to be students. People in the city are NPCs. Your character might have a father who works in the city and he might show up, but he should never become a main character, only a supporting one. If you do have an idea which you want to expand upon, ask the Modifier about it and get his permission. All you have to do is write an e-mail with your explanation and wait for a reply, which takes not even a day most of the time; It's that simple.

Characters can be one of the following (subclasses shown below the main class description. There are three subclasses for each main class):

  • Ops - Short for "Operators", a class of student usually associated with good morals, a clean record, and known for overall good school performance. Similar to the 'preps' of the real world. They're the social types, but also heavily affiliated with magic and scholarly pursuits.
    • Occultists - Magic-oriented
    • Officiates - Society-oriented
    • Scholars - Study-oriented

  • Clockwizards - The nerds, geeks, and dorks of the school system. They're into technology, heavily, and while this doesn't mean they're necessarily socially inept, many of them seem to pay more attention to machines than other human beings.
    • Technicians - Machinery-oriented
    • Runecologists - Magitech-oriented
    • Alchemists - Science-oriented

  • Titans - The physical sorts, usually into athletics or martial combat. They're military types half the time and often spend a great deal of their lives in pursuit of the martial arts or weaponry. Some research blacksmithing, others research fist-fighting, and so forth.
    • Metalworks - Blacksmithing-oriented
    • Olympiads - Athletics-oriented
    • Guardians - Combat-oriented

  • WSIPs - An acronym meaning "Worthless, Stupid, Idiotic, Parasites", given to them by the rest of society, and often deservedly so. WSIPs are known for being depressive and lazy, as well as dabbling in the darker areas of magic without any real study. Social outcasts in all aspects.
    • Delinquents - Violence-oriented
    • Derangements - Disorder-oriented
    • Antisocialists - Isolation-oriented

In addition, it should be noted that this is a low-power roleplay, meaning that you will not be calling down the Elder Gods to assist you in squashing the punk kid who called you a weenie at lunch. While high-power spells and abilities do exist, they're mostly scenario-based and have to be approved beforehand. This is also a light-combat roleplay, meaning most of the focus is on character interaction and development, not fighting or going off to battle with the 10,000 year old dragon who kicked your grandma in the shin when she was crossing the street last Tuesday.

If combat does arise (and it will), players can use whatever battle system they choose, but the decision must be mutual. Furthermore, while battles can happen spontaneously, your character shouldn't be going up asking people to spar. This is a school for one, and a fairly civilised society on top of that. You'd be ushered into a nice warm jail cell by the local police authority if you started trouble and got caught. And believe it, those local police can beat the living snot out of a student if they have to.

On a final note, your character has to be from within the city. No one is born outside of it, nor are they from other cities because as far as anyone knows, no other cities exist. No other settlements, and for that matter, no other people. There will be no 'mysterious wanderers' coming in off the dusty plains, nor vagabonds roaming the wastelands. It's too dangerous and too polluted. Characters may have mysterious pasts even with a city though, so don't rule out all the thrill of suspense.

That's really all you have to look out for. Obviously the theme is psuedo-modern, although with a degree of medieval and sci-fi influences, so create your characters accordingly. If you're in doubt, check the Characters List for a comprehensive directory of people already affiliated with the roleplay. It should help you get an idea of what's expected.
